When used as directed, red/NIR light therapy is generally considered low-risk for home wellness routines. Most issues come from overexposure (too long/too close) or eye exposure—so follow the routine timing and don’t stare into the LEDs. If you have a medical condition or are on photosensitizing medication, check with a clinician first.
Distance controls the “dose.” Many consumer guidelines cluster around a few inches up to ~2 feet, depending on device type and goal—closer for targeted areas, farther for broader facial/ambient use. Start in the comfortable mid-range and follow the AriHelder routine for consistency.
Most home-use guidance lands around 10–20 minutes per area, and longer isn’t always better (cells can only absorb so much light at once). AriHelder routines are designed to be short and repeatable.
Consistency beats intensity. Many brands and summaries recommend 2–5 times per week (often 3–5x/week) for typical routines. If you’re doing the same area, leave time between sessions (e.g., several hours) rather than stacking back-to-back long sessions.
Red light is visible and commonly used in skin-focused routines. NIR is invisible and is often used for deeper-feeling comfort and recovery routines. Many devices combine both, and you can choose based on your routine goal (Beauty vs Active vs Sleep).
