June 21st, 2026.

Here in Thailand, that is also the year 2569. In Northern Europe, where Christian comes from, this is midsummer: the longest day of the year, the night when people celebrate the sun, the light, and in Sweden at least, probably a heroic amount of aquavit.

For AriHelder, it felt like the right moment to stop for a while and look back.

We have now been working properly on the AriHelder project for around six months. The idea started in December, became real in the first part of the year, and has now moved into that interesting phase where a product is no longer just an idea, but also not quite a finished thing yet.

This is the messy, exciting middle.

The prototype works. The light is powerful. People are using it. The brand is starting to become visible in Chiang Mai. We have a manufacturing path. We have industrial design work underway. We are also learning, correcting, testing, adjusting, and occasionally being reminded that hardware is still hardware.

Things take time. Things break. 3D printers arrive damaged. Measuring light turns out to be less simple than expected. And every design decision has consequences.

That is exactly why we wanted to write this update.

Why AriHelder Started

The original idea behind AriHelder was simple:

Make a red and near-infrared light product that normal people can actually afford, but that is still powerful enough to matter.

This is not our first time around this technology. Arjen has worked with red and near-infrared light for many years, including the early Recharge and FlexBeam days, when most people had no idea what red light therapy even was. Back then, a huge part of the work was simply explaining the category.

What is red light therapy?
What is near-infrared light?
Why does light interact with the body?
Why are mitochondria always mentioned?
How deep does the light go?
How much power is enough?

Ten years ago, for many people, this still sounded like fringe science.

Today the market is very different.

Red light therapy is no longer completely strange. Many people have seen LED face masks. Beauty clinics talk about light. Biohackers talk about mitochondria. Fitness and recovery people are curious. Women especially seem to know the category now because of the rise of red light beauty masks.

That does not mean people understand the details. Most people still do not know the difference between a weak glow and a properly powered near-infrared system.

But the first barrier is gone.

People have heard of it.

That changes everything.

From Explanation to Experience

Because the market has changed, our strategy has changed too.

With AriHelder, the goal is not to spend years trying to convince people that red and near-infrared light exists. The goal is to get well-designed, powerful, honest products into the hands of people who are already curious.

That is why the first phase has been very local.

We now have several prototypes out in the field around Chiang Mai. Some are with health and wellness people. Some are with biohackers. Some are with trainers and people in the gym environment. Some are with people dealing with aches, stiffness, or recovery needs.

This is not a clinical trial. It is not a medical claim. It is practical early-stage product testing.

We want to know how real people use the product.

Do they understand it?
Do they like the form factor?
Is it comfortable?
Is it powerful enough?
Is it too powerful for some use cases?
Does the interface make sense?
Do people actually keep using it?

These are the questions that turn an engineering prototype into a product.

Our goal for the summer is to have around 15 prototypes in local circulation. Not hidden in a lab. Not sitting in a box. Actually being used by people.

That is when you start learning.

The Manufacturing Step

A few months ago, we also made an important manufacturing agreement with Peter and Jesse in China.

This matters.

Every serious hardware startup needs a manufacturing path. You can have the best idea in the world, but unless you can build it repeatedly, reliably, and at the right cost, you do not have a product. You have a prototype.

Peter has decades of experience in manufacturing and supply chain work in China. We have known and worked with him for almost 20 years. His son Jesse is now also involved, after studying in the United States, and is helping move the next generation of the manufacturing side forward.

For us, this is a practical and reassuring setup.

They understand factories.
They understand suppliers.
They understand molding.
They understand China.
And we know them.

That means AriHelder can keep product development, brand, testing, and market work close to us here in Thailand, while working with a manufacturing partner who can help make the product real.

That is a very different position from trying to do everything ourselves from day one.

The Ken Factor: Why Design Matters

The next big step is industrial design.

This is where Ken, our industrial designer in Singapore, comes in.

Engineers tend to see the product from the inside out. Power, voltage, heat, current, LEDs, optics, efficiency, circuit boards, thermal management.

All of that matters.

But customers see the product from the outside first.

They pick it up.
They look at the materials.
They feel the button.
They notice the weight.
They decide, often within seconds, whether something feels serious or cheap.

That was one of the big lessons from our recent design discussions.

Our first instinct was to make the product as affordable as possible. Reduce cost. Reduce molds. Make the enclosure simple. Keep everything stripped down around the essential thing: strong near-infrared and red light.

That instinct was not wrong.

But it can go too far.

If you cut too much, the product starts to feel cheap. And if it feels cheap, people may never get to the point where they appreciate the engineering inside.

This is especially important for AriHelder because we are not trying to make a disposable plastic gadget. We are trying to make something more durable, more beautiful, and more honest.

That is why the current Helder 2 direction is moving toward a more metal-based product language. Steel or aluminium. A better arm. Better hinges. Better weight. Better cable routing. A product that feels like it belongs in the home, not like it escaped from a discount electronics shelf.

The engineering already works.

Now the product has to look and feel worthy of the engineering.

Build to Last, Not Build to Throw Away

One of the most exciting design directions is the arm.

Instead of relying on cheap plastic hinges, we are looking at a higher-quality metal arm with proper mechanical parts. This has several advantages.

It feels better.
It lasts longer.
It is more stable.
It can hide the cable more elegantly.
It is easier to recycle.
It fits the AriHelder idea of a serious wellness product for everyday living.

We like products that can stay with people.

AriHelder is not about making another anonymous device that gets used twice and then disappears into a drawer. The goal is to make light technology part of daily life: on the desk, by the bed, in the living room, in the clinic, at the gym, or wherever people naturally recover, work, rest, and live.

That means design is not decoration.

Design is function.

Better Testing, Better Honesty

Another important part of this phase is measurement.

We are now preparing clearer reports on power, flicker, EMF, and optical output. This is not just for internal engineering. It is also part of a larger belief we have: customers should not need an engineering degree to compare light products.

One of the things we discussed in the update is that measuring LED light is more complicated than it looks.

A laser is narrow and coherent. LED light spreads. It is non-coherent. It comes out at angles. That means a sensor that works well for measuring laser power may not be the right tool for accurately measuring LED irradiance.

That has forced us to look more carefully at our own measurement setup.

We have previously tested with power meters and integrating spheres, but as we adjust wavelengths and product design, we also need better repeatable measurements. We are now looking at a handheld optical spectrum analyzer / mini-sphere tool that can measure irradiance in milliwatts per square centimeter with a known tolerance.

It is not the most expensive laboratory setup in the world. Those systems can cost ten times more. But it is a serious step toward more consistent, transparent product testing.

This matters because red light products are often sold with big numbers and vague claims.

We want to move in the opposite direction.

Clear power.
Clear area.
Clear distance.
Clear wavelength.
Clear measurement conditions.

Not magic. Not hype. Just better information.

The Green Light Rabbit Hole

One of the more interesting side topics in our current testing is green light.

Most people know red light. Some people know near-infrared. Very few people think about green light in the same context.

Arjen has experimented with green light for years. Some early research suggests that green light may have interesting effects related to pain, migraine, and possibly bone-related processes. We have also seen some promising anecdotal results over the years with green and near-infrared combinations.

But this creates a product question.

Should green light go into Helder 2?

Technically, it could. We know how to do it. We have green prototypes. We are curious about the effects.

But from a customer point of view, it may create confusion.

People are now beginning to understand red light. They are beginning to understand near-infrared light. If we add green light into the main product too early, we may be back to explaining everything from zero again.

So for now, the Helder 2 direction stays focused.

Warm. Simple. Beautiful. Red and near-infrared. Easy to use in the morning. No techno feeling. No confusing light show.

Green light may belong in a later, more advanced AriHelder product at a different price point.

That is the discipline of product design: not every good idea belongs in the first product.

AriHelder in Thailand

On the market side, AriHelder.com is now live on Shopify.

The website is intentionally more brand-focused and clean. Our Facebook presence is more personal, local, and immediate. That combination feels right for Thailand.

Here, Facebook is still very important for small and medium businesses. People discover things there. They follow real updates. They want to see the people behind the company.

The next important step is Line.

In Thailand, Line is not optional. It is where customer communication, offers, follow-up, and e-commerce conversations happen. So while the website gives AriHelder a proper home, Line will become one of the main practical channels for customers here.

We are also looking at events.

The Wildside Christmas Market in December is already on our radar as a good local launch-style setting. There is also a major sport-tech show in Bangkok, which is useful not just for selling, but for understanding the fitness, recovery, and wellness market in Thailand.

The question is not only: can we make the product?

The question is: where does the product naturally belong?

Clinics?
Gyms?
Recovery spaces?
Beauty and wellness studios?
Home offices?
Sports communities?
Older users?
Women who already understand light from beauty masks?
Biohackers who want more power and better honesty?

The answer may be several of these. The next months will teach us more.

Helder 3: The Desk Lamp Idea

While Helder 2 is the main focus, we are also already thinking about smaller products.

One of those is Helder 3, a compact desk-lamp style device.

The idea is simple: a smaller light that can sit naturally on a desk, in an office, or beside a laptop. It can provide normal white light, but also red and near-infrared light for more targeted use.

This matters because a wellness product has to fit into life.

If something looks too strange, people may not use it openly. Especially in an office culture, where hierarchy and social context matter, a device cannot look like a medical experiment sitting next to your keyboard.

It has to look like it belongs.

The Helder 3 concept is still early, but the direction is exciting: compact, foldable, USB-C powered, and still much more powerful than the typical weak consumer light product.

That will be a topic for another update.

What Happens Next

The next phase is clear.

We continue testing the current power platform with real users around Chiang Mai.
We gather feedback from people who have lived with the prototypes for weeks, not minutes.
Ken completes the industrial design concepts.
The mechanical design is translated into production-ready parts.
We continue improving optical measurements and reporting.
We build the AriHelder brand presence in Thailand.
We prepare for samples, molds, and a more finished product direction through the coming months.

The good news is that the core technology works.

The electronics do not need to be reinvented. The power is there. The product function is there. The work now is to turn that into something people understand, trust, want to own, and actually use.

That is the real work.

Not just making light.

Making a product.

A Mid-Summer Note

AriHelder is still young.

Six months is not a long time in hardware. But it is long enough to see whether a project has life in it.

This one does.

We have working prototypes. We have people using them. We have a manufacturing path. We have design work underway. We have a clearer idea of what Helder 2 should be, and just as importantly, what it should not be.

It should not be a cheap plastic gadget.

It should not be confusing.

It should not hide behind vague numbers.

It should not pretend to be magic.

It should be powerful, honest, warm, useful, and built with care.

That is where we are at mid-summer.

And from here, the direction looks good.
